Welcome to The Rotary Club of Chippenham

A Message from President Richard Meek

Welcome to the website of Chippenham Rotary Club. We are a worldwide voluntary service organisation open to both men and women who share our ethos of helping those less fortunate than ourselves.

Internationally, Rotary has over 1.2 million members who willingly give of their time, energy and expertise to help others. It’s the skills of our membership which enables us to respond positively and quickly in times of need - be it locally, nationally or internationally.  For example, when natural disasters occur we work directly with other agencies to provide emergency aid such as water purification kits and ‘Shelter Boxes’. The latter consisting of a tent, cooking implements and many other items needed to sustain a family for some months.

Fortunately not all the things we are able to help with are on such a dramatic scale but, to those affected, they can still be every bit as important. These can range from help with the funding of a particular project in a hospital or school to providing a team to help tidy a garden for a disabled person.

We are also active in encouraging the development of young people through our Youth Programmes which aim to build confidence, develop leadership skills and enhance self esteem.  Within this programme there is the opportunity for young people to travel abroad to study, experience different cultures and lifestyles with the added bonus of often establishing friendships which last a lifetime.

To achieve our aims we need to raise funds and our two main events are the Guy Fawkes Fireworks display in Monkton Park every November and the annual Charity Golf Day that normally takes place in the Spring.  All the money raised by these and our other fundraising events goes towards supporting those in need.

However, we are not ‘all work and no play’ and (along with our partners) frequently enjoy a wide variety of social activities.

I joined Rotary because I wanted to give something back to the community in which I live and help others less fortunate than me.  If you feel you would like to do the same, why not come along and see what we have to offer – you will be most welcome.

Chippenham Rotary Club meets in the Rotary Hall, Station Hill, Chippenham, on Mondays for lunch (not Bank Holidays) at 12.15pm for 12:45pm. When there is a 5th Monday in the month we meet for dinner at 7.00pm for7.30pm. Partners are welcome at meetings and we regularly invite speakers who talk on a varied and interesting range of topics.
